Hi everyone! I often get asked about myself, so I thought today I’d share with you some answers to the questions I get asked the most. I hope you enjoy learning a bit more about me!

What is your name?
Jen Aranyi

Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Maryland and currently live in Columbia, MD.

When is your birthday?
June 20

How did you get into art?
I’ve always been interested in art from a young age. Art was always my favorite class in school growing up, and in high school was when I decided it was what I wanted to make a career out of.

Where did you go to college?
I went to Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia. I graduated in 2013 with a BFA in Communication Arts.

Is the art you share on Instagram your main job?
Its actually not! I work a full time job as a Senior Graphic Designer for a company in Washington, D.C. and paint and sell my art on the side.

Is that a lot to do both that job and create your art?
Honestly, sometimes it is. But I absolutely love having both in my life and wouldn’t want to choose between them. I love being able to work with typography and design during the day, and then come home and break out the watercolors.

What is your favorite color?
I would definitely have to say teal, but I love all cool colors.

What is your favorite art medium?
Watercolor! Though honestly, when I first tried watercolor in college I didn’t like it very much. It wasn’t until later when I was gifted a set of watercolor paint that I decided to try it out again, and this time fell completely in love with it.

Why do you typically only paint the sky in your landscape pieces?
I’ve always loved the look of clean black and white line art, for a while most of my work was only black and white. But I equally love bright, bold color so it was a natural progression to combine the two. I love the contrast that is created by the juxtaposition of the simple line art against the bold blocks of color.

Do you have any hobbies outside of art?
I do! I love to sing and play the ukulele. My husband is a wonderful guitarist, so he and I also like to play and sing songs together. I also love to bake…I have a big sweet tooth 🙂
